3rd Graders at Amelia Elementary learned how to cut out symmetrical vase shapes and then added colorful textures with the texture plate tool. Different types of flowers were added using smooth oil pastels. Very Beautiful 3rd Grade!

Mrs. Hayden's 2nd grade class at Summerside enjoyed learning different ways to make textures in their project. To create the texture of water, students used watercolor paint and laid plastic wrap over it as it dried overnight. The next art class, students used texture plates and crayon to create fun scales on their fish. The second graders were very proud of their work! Way to go!
As a member of The Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) I attended this year's conference held in Cincinnati. It was a worthwhile day of Professional Development. I attended workshops on hot topics like TAB (Teaching for Artist Behavior), encouraging students to use critical thinking /21st Century Learning, and Multiculturalism as well as getting great lesson ideas for elementary art. The networking was great and I came home inspired with new ideas I want to incorporate into my classroom! Summerside 5th graders are learning about texture and value. No better way to practice than drawing the new West Clermont mascot-Wolves. Students learned step-by-step how to draw the shape of their wolf, added its hair texture and pressed harder with their pencil to shade in areas to make it look more realistic. Great effort was shown and there was great success for first time drawing a wolf!
Mrs. Stidham's 1st graders at Willowville Elementary created realistic trees with whimsical inspiration from artist Wassily Kandinsky. They painted their trees with tempra paint and tried out a new material-oil pastels to create their concentric circles (circles inside of circles). A great project to review line and shape.
Mrs. Steven's 5th graders at Willowville Elementary hard at work creating their radial symmetry origami. This assignment was a perfect blend of math and art concepts. Students did an excellent job with this challenging project and didn't want to stop when class was over.
Mrs. Smith's 3rd graders at Willowville Elementary enjoyed creating paper collages in the style of artist Henri Matisse. They designed abstract pictures focusing on color and shape.
5th Graders at Amelia Elementary created origami radial symmetry designs. For this project they learned 4 different origami folds: the kite, the hat, the samurai and double samurai. What a perfect way to combine art and math skills.
Kindergarteners at Summerside Elementary participated in International Dot Day which celebrates creativity around the world by reading "The Dot," by Peter Reynolds. The story encourages students to "make your mark and see where it takes you!"
Kindergarteners enjoyed using watercolor paints on coffee filters to make their own unique dots. Each child's artwork was put into a class mural and is currently on display in the hall at Summerside. Pictures above are of Mrs. Setter's class from yesterday. |
