For our color rotation, students at all levels have been enjoying this video by OK GO! I love the creative way they show colormixing and it helps the students remember how to create secondary colors from the primary colors. Warning, it's very catchy.

3rd Graders at Amelia Elementary learned how to cut out symmetrical vase shapes and then added colorful textures with the texture plate tool. Different types of flowers were added using smooth oil pastels. Very Beautiful 3rd Grade!
As a member of The Ohio Art Education Association (OAEA) I attended this year's conference held in Cincinnati. It was a worthwhile day of Professional Development. I attended workshops on hot topics like TAB (Teaching for Artist Behavior), encouraging students to use critical thinking /21st Century Learning, and Multiculturalism as well as getting great lesson ideas for elementary art. The networking was great and I came home inspired with new ideas I want to incorporate into my classroom! 5th Graders at Amelia Elementary created origami radial symmetry designs. For this project they learned 4 different origami folds: the kite, the hat, the samurai and double samurai. What a perfect way to combine art and math skills.
I joined Twitter today as another way to share the wonderful and exciting things we are doing in elementary art at West Clermont. Please follow me on Twitter @MoWilliamsArt
Larry the Line visited the younger grades at Amelia Elementary to demonstrate many different types of lines as well as the 3 different directions a line can move. As a reward to classes working hard and quietly, Larry reappears at the end of class to check out student work and shake his rattle. Amelia students love Larry and I'm pretty sure he has his own fan club!
This week at Amelia Elementary, we read Lines that Wiggle by Candace Whitman as an introduction to line. First graders enjoyed creating different kinds of lines on their paper with black crayon. However, the best part of class, was getting to paint with watercolor paints to make our work very colorful!
The Cultural Arts Program started today at Amelia Elementary. Students get to learn from two art teachers! I love working with Miss Green, my co-art teacher. She loves to draw and tries to sneak paint into every lesson! I have learned so much from working with her last year. I'm looking forward to another great year at Amelia.
It was nice to see familiar faces as we taught 5th grade today. Students learned how to draw animals by breaking them down into simple shapes and the importance of proportion when drawing. Next class, they will fill in their animals with intricate line designs known as zentangles. Once projects are completed, I'll post some pictures! |
