The white hallways at Summerside are now full of great, colorful student art work. Each grade level did a project based on line, our element of art this rotation. Line can create patterns, intricate designs and show movement! Line is truly a building block to creating art!

Mrs. Hayden's 2nd graders at Summerside Elementary were excited to show off their finished Pattern Line Cats today in art today. What a fantastic job creating line and color patterns! Meet our class pet, Larry the Line (a stuffed rattle snake). He has been visiting the younger grades to demonstrate the 3 different directions a line can go (horizontal, vertical and diagonal). He also is a great visual to show how a line has a beginning point (his nose) and an end point (his tail). When a student gets a correct answer he rattles his tail. He's been a huge hit here in the art room!
Mrs. Cann's second graders at Summerside just finished their pattern cats today! They learned a new way to draw a cat by following directions step-by-step. We also discussed line, our element of art for this rotation. They learned they could create a line pattern by repeating various lines over and over within their cats. Markers and crayons were used to add color. Way to go second grade! These are some fancy cats!
Mrs. Feldkamp's 3rd graders at Summerside Elementary just finished their first art project. They did an awesome job creating a sunset using various types of lines. They had fun using watercolor paints to add color. Great job 3rd grade! I can't wait to brighten up our hallways with these beautiful paintings.
Welcome! I am very excited to share this blog to keep parents, students and staff up-to-date on what is going on in the art room as I travel from school to school this year. I will share what we are studying as well as remarkable student work.
The specials team is starting the year off at Summerside Elementary. I couldn't of asked for a better specials team to teach with: Mrs. Shebetka (gym), Mr. White (technology) and Mr. Harmon (music). It's great to see familiar faces of both students and staff from last year and meet new ones too! As students come to art this rotation, the Element of Art we will be focusing on will be line. Students are also getting a tour of the art room and learning the routines for passing out supplies and cleaning up. I can't wait to share some of our projects later this week. Until then, see how many different kinds of lines your student can name or draw. |
